Beginning in 2006 and ending in 2008 there were over 259,000 wildfires reported in the U.S. resulting in 24.3 million acres consumed. Suppression costs alone are billions of dollars not to mention property losses. The impact on the insurance industry continues to rise at an exponential rate. Wildfire investigations have become more sophisticated over the last few decades. The question--where does one start when investigating a 50,000 acre wildfire is a daunting one.
